Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Caleb L — 09 Nov 2013
Michael Corleone (Al Pacino): "He's has been dying from the same heart attack for the last twenty years.".
I have to admit, this isn't really my genre of film but one thing is undeniable: a good movie is a good movie, no matter the genre. I do like the second installment of the trilogy more than the original Godfather film, no disrespect to Marlon Brando and James Caan, who was absolutely brilliant in the first film. But this film was so wonderful, with the conspiracy and betrayal plot, it was absolutely intriguing! I also like Michael's (Pacino) transformation from the reluctant successor to the full-fledge Godfather, but I guess you can't appreciate the character's evolution without having seen the first film, so in that way the first and second film really compliment each other well. The performance of the cast was marvelous, what a stellar ensemble, they all did a beautiful job and there wasn't a dull or unconvincing performance in the group, even Diane Keaton (who plays Kay Adams), whom I felt gave the least convincing, weakest performance in the entire film but still wasn't as bad as the performance of some leads in movies now-a-days. Superb film, really worthy of it's epic, must-see reputation!
