Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Sanchayan S — 17 Feb 2014
Beautifully crafted , expertly dramatized and impeccable performances from the cast make the sequel to The Godfather one of the greatest movies of all times. Francis Ford Coppola's direction and his style of showing scenes are extremely natural and intimate.
The characters become so close and life like that after few minutes one feel that he is not watching a movie at all . The screenplay is absolutely brilliant and intelligent , the cinematography is top class and the music this time around is more haunting and underlies the dramatization of the scenes.
While this chapter misses Marlon Brando , Robert De Niro in his portrayal of Vito Corleone is brilliant , original and yet putting up to the character shown by Brando . His performance is right up there along with Al Pacino's who has given probably the best performance of his career following the first chapter.
The story is complex , maintaining crucial themes of insecurity , hypocrisy and justice and the two way storytelling really complements each other. Although for some moments each story makes you lose some of the other story , but the importance of the storytelling is basically the chracterization of Michael Corleone.
