Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Thomas L — 10 May 2014
The Godfather: Part II is erhaps THE most succesful attempt at making 2 movies in one. It serves as both a sequel and a prequl to the original movie. But in my opinion, this second installment is superior to the original.
The main storyline is that of Michael Corleone after he has taken over the Corleone family after the death of Vito. The prequel-parts show Vito's rise to power in America. Both plots interfere with each other, and both are equally well made.
Both Al Pacino and Robert De Niro are perfectly cast in their respective roles, and Pacino outdoes his own performance in the original film. Robert Duvall is brilliant as well. Like the original movie, this one has a formidable running time, but it does not seem to suffer from it.
