Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Joe H — 28 Jul 2014
Ambitions and epic in scope, the second installment of the Godfather trilogy examines the all-consuming nature of violence, crime, and lust for power passed down from generation to generation. A shattering flashback scene towards the end of the film reveals Michael's once defiant purity amidst his criminal family.
The foreboding ending to the first film only hints at what culminates in this installment; finding Michael as a man without guilt, without pity, and without the capacity for forgiveness. Gone is the innocent man he once was, lost forever in a never-ending cycle of violence, crime, and vengeance.
This is truly one of the greatest tragic films of all time.
