Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Yash B — 11 Jun 2016
It's a very effective sequel. This is because it matches the first in quality, but is completely different in style and structure. The movie is a direct continuation of the first it expands on the universe and characters.
It is a perfect example of good character development. When you see how far things have come at the end of this film, the change feels monumental. Robert De Niro as a young Vito Corleone is a strong addition to the movie and it provides a lot of insights from this character we didn't know much about in the first movie.
The parallel between father and son is shown skillfully and the movie keeps you invested and paying attention. It does feel overlong and sometimes the movie is much more dialogue focused, which makes it seem uneventful in places.
However, just like the first, you're absorbed into this world the second it starts.
