Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Dave M — 23 Jun 2012
The second installment in the "Godfather" series isn't just a majestic and heartbraking masterpiece, it is also one of the most beautiful films in the artform history. This is my number one favorite film, and it succeeds over the first when it comes exclusively to storytelling. The original "Godfather" was introductory, based on a mediocre novel, and presented the new family in their beginnings. The sequel is a mind-bending tragedy which ambitions to compare the lives and achievements of the two most powerful people of their dinasty, while at the same time works over the strong moral dilemma that bears the execution of your own family for its own preserving and wellbeing.
This is a tragedy that reminds me of Renaissance and Romanticism tales. This is a tragedy worthy of being told by Victor Hugo or Fyodor Dostoievsky. This is the most magnificent film I have ever seen.
