Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Mitch T — 09 May 2012
This is a great Godfather, one could argue it would be better than the original just because of the integration of two parallel father and son journeys with protecting their families. I like the idea of showing the origin of the Corleone family, and I also liked the idea of showing Michael's rise to power.
If you had to evaluate the three movies of the trilogy.
Godfather-----Establishes the fall of Don Vito Corleone and the vengeance and eventual takeover of Michael.
Godfather Part 2----Shows the origin of the Corleone family, and also the total takeover of Michael where we left him after Godfather.
Godfather Part 3---Shows the decline of Michael's empire, the takeover of Vincent Mancini, and the whiplash from living such a corrupt and evil lifestyle and the penalties of all his actions. He has success in his business life, but not in his family life, which makes him much different than his father, Don Vito.
