Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Akashvijay — 22 Jan 2015
It's not a perfect film. It lacks the innovative ideas of the Godfather and it has a hard time juggling multiple storylines. The Michael-Kay subplot is very rushed and the film doesn't quite have the thrill and the mystery of the first film.
But it succeeds in being an immensely powerful character study. Al Pacino, even better in this one, is remarkable as a malicious figure of quiet authority waiting and longing for the right time to strike his prey.
Works very well for the most part but it's not quiet the achievement the first film was. But there's no shame in that.
