I'm not sure what's more disturbing, that the characters justify their monstrous actions so easily or that a sizable portion of the film's audience idolizes those same characters . . . in any case, I can't think of anything that validates Coppola's exploration into the dark heart of the American dream better than seeing people venerate a bunch of murderers and thugs.
As to the film's technical and narrative merits, they pretty much speak for themselves. Oh, and this has to be one of the greatest film casts ever assembled.
