Review of The Glimmer Man (1996) by Kristy P — 24 Feb 2010
Probably one of Seagal's better attempts, Glimmer Man starts off as a murder mystery and quickly descends into being buddy cop movie with a lot of punch ups and explosions. Seagal plays a detective with a 'shady' past (big suprise) but who has also converted to budhism (even BIGGER suprise). Keenen Wayans is actually pretty reasonable in this feature (especially considering the crap his brothers have been filling the screens with) but he is naturally playing a sterotyped character.
Brian Cox and Bob Gunton are suprising additions to this flick, with Cox playing his usual charming yet sinister self and Gunton playing a power hungry millionaire. Naturally the muredr mystery pretty much becomes a bit of a sham as you can pretty much figure out who the killer is and why he's doing it pretty early on.
Overall, Glimmer man is a reasonable action flick with Seagal delivering the usual amount of head kicking (which is ironic seeing as he states that 'my religion forbids me from entering a fight') and Wayans does his best in swearing, shooting and getting his ass kicked.
