Review of The Glenn Miller Story (1954) by Michelle (Shiva) M — 16 May 2007
Jimmy Stewart takes a legend and performs him rather well. The one and the only Glenn Miller can't very well be portrayed by anyone, I don't care who. June Allyson really threw me off because I kept seeing Joe March in her character from her earlier performance in Little Women.
The music was great! I don't think Glenn Miller would have been disappointed. Of course, he demanded perfection from his musicians; his "sound"; that's what made him so different. Jimmy Stewart portrayed him rather tiredly; nothing at all like his earlier (and best) performance in It's A Wonderful Life.
Nevertheless, a feel-good movie of the BIG BAND age--not to be missed.
