Review of The Giver (2014) by August M — 04 Feb 2015
One of the most heavy-handed movies I have ever seen and with an entirely unconvincing lead. They completely neutered and maimed the book in order to make another bland, inconsequential Hollywood movie.
It's attempts at thought-provoking intelligence are laughable at best, horrendous at worst. It doesn't help that the cast reads their lines as if everything they say is "important" and "profound" and when that's not happening the movie devolves into incredibly trite and obvious exposition.
The one thing this movie has going for it is that it's pleasant to look at.
