Review of The Giver (2014) by Stefano L — 15 Sep 2015
After the first 5 minutes I thought I was not going to watch a total crap. Ok the premises were not the most originals, in fact the idea of a group of elders who assigned the jobs for their entire lifes to the new adults was present also in City of Ember, but here was somehow improved and it was also clear that the situation was due to a greater extent.
Also, the fact that the first part of the movie was in black and white because it wanted to show that the people in the world lived everything without emotions, being always under the effect of "emotions-control-drugs", was a great plus.
Finally there was a good supporting cast with Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in the part of two of the elders. But then, when you have just one idea and nothing more, you can be as good as you want in portrait it in the best way, but the results won't be good.
This is exactly what happened in the end. A bit of a pity.
