Review of The Giver (2014) by Del B — 08 Feb 2015
The Giver is one of those movies that I actually like it, but I felt like something is missing in it, like the spark of it. I didn't read the book, so I wouldn't know how much of the movie is similar, or different, to the source material.
The acting is great, the plot is good and interesting, and there's some nice ideas in it that are well executed. I agree with the consensus that I felt like it should've been more thought-provoking and go deeper to it.
It kinda feels like something that you see in every young adult book movie adaptations, but still feels distant enough to not be a distraction to me. The ending was fine, but it kinda ended a bit flat for me and I wanted to see what's going to happen after that.
The Giver could've been better, but there's enough good in there to keep the viewers entertained, especially teens.
