) I was not a fan of the Giver. I can understand why the Weinstein company wanted to get into the Young Adult Novel to Film Business but this film was not the way to do it. Having read the book, I am a little biased.
Visually the film looked nice and the core actors did a valiant job. Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep are pros and they showed it. They are easily the best actors in this ensemble. Katie Holmes did a nice job as well.
Other then those few things I mentioned above, I was not impressed with the film. It dragged on and on at times and it seemed rushed. I liked the book and I can understand why the writers had to write new plot lines because there wasn't enough in the book to fill a whole movie but still it seemed like a mess.
I didn't feel anything for the characters and when the film ended I felt nothing. If you read the book I would say watch this with a grain of salt. If you didn't maybe you will enjoy it more then I did.
