Review of The Giver (2014) by Rosemarie D — 18 May 2015
I simply ADORE this movie. If you like movies that teach the audience of what it truly means to be human and how we are and what we could be, then this is the movie for you! The Giver tells such an amazing tale of a young boy who grows up in this utopian/distopian (fun trend there YA readers, don't you think?) future where people are stripped from all their emotions and color and once the people have reached a certain age are given a job to do for the rest of their lives.
No one cares of course because there are no emotions but one person is given the history of all humanity and that person is allowed to feel and see color. The main character gets this job and the movie is his journey to tell other people of what he is feeling and seeing and trying to tell everyone there's more to life than what they were doing.
All in all the movie is beautifully directed and the message it sends is one of my favorites. I won't spoil anything here but I do recommend for you to watch this movie, if you've read the book, you might not enjoy it as much but since I haven't (yet) I did enjoy it.
