Review of The Girlfriend Experience (2009) by Alexander P — 24 Jan 2012
Soderbergh's little experimental films always impress me with their style and innovation, but rarely does their story add up. Just as Bubble, I enjoyed The Girlfriend Experience to a point. Oftentimes the dialogue grew tedious and boredom fell upon me in the films short 78 minutes.
The themes of the ways in which we sell ourselves to other people are very prevalent and thought provoking, but beyond and film's ideas and style there is little else to grasp onto; especially in terms of plot or story.
This isn't always a bad thing, especially when done by the likes of Richard Linklater, but it just doesn't add up in this case.
