Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) by Tsukasa A — 06 Feb 2015
Lately, many of the movies I've been watching have been ruined for me because of their god awful pacing, for example: The Iceman. Luckily The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, having a run time of 2h 38min, is long enough to fully develop its characters and story.
The movie had to get the pacing right to work, and it did a great job at that. Director David Fincher is kind of like Tarantino in the way he's able to make these really long ass movies and have them feel like 90min.
The movie pulls you in from the very first shot. The intro is filled with amazing imagery and a really kick ass electro version of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song." You want to learn the mystery behind the movie, and even though it's just a movie, it almost feels like you're watching real people.
It's impossible not to be intrigued by the movie, yes, it's very long, but don't let that turn you off, it's masterfully made, and if you love complex psychological mysteries then you'll love this, and just so you know, I wouldn't really call this an art house movie.
I mean yes, it is Oscar worthy, but Oscar contenders aren't necessarily art house movies. So if art house movies aren't your thing, you may still like this.
