Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) by Sam F — 05 Feb 2013
This movie was definitely snubbed during the 2012 Academy Awards for the Best Picture category. It is such a well-made, well-paced and well-acted film. Well, at least it was recognised at the Oscars for its excellent film editing.
The way in which the film is put together makes it so smooth-flowing and highly engaging. The highlight of the movie is of course the talented Rooney Mara, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role but lost to the legendary Meryl Streep, who portrayed Margaret Thatcher in 'The Iron Lady'.
Her portrayal of Lisbeth Salander is astonishing. Well, not because she was good in bed, no, but rather how she could capture the fragility and hypnotic characteristics of the woman. And of course, the plot is excellent, thanks to the late Stieg Larsson, the author of the 'Millennium' trilogy.
The screenplay is well-written as well. Academy-Award-winning film composers Reznor and Ross has provided a score which is not as outstanding as their previous work on 'Social Network' but one which is good enough to keep audiences invested in the film.
Overall, this is yet another film which I will remember for a long time, simply because its great, disturbing and one hell of a crime story.
