I can't really believe that it was the director of Zodiac who made this film. After watching Zodiac, I assumed that David Fincher can never make a good serial killer film and reluctantly I watched this film only to realize that this is my favourite Fincher film. This film actually benefits from an all star cast, which also includes the supporting actors and a tense direction from Fincher. It's really difficult to watch a woman being raped onscreen, but Rooney Mara's performances was convincing enough. This film opens up with a clear plot and a main reason for this to be that good is the book from the Millennium Trilogy from which this was adapted. The only problem here is that even with the 2 and a half hour length the film fails to provide the audience enough characters to keep on suspecting to be the killer and thus it ends with a cliched ending, but it's pardonable.
