Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) by Robert M — 31 Dec 2011
It's strange watching a film when you've pratically lived with the book for over 2 weeks, familiar with the characters and the story still fresh in my head I was wondering how I would receive it, the last review I read (the Empire Blu ray review) had said that it jettisons some the detail that Larsson included and cuts to the chase.
It's always the same where I think Silence of The Lambs is one of the best examples where the film maker got the book on the screen my Wife will argue that the film missed the detail about Buffalo Bill's background etc etc. As long as you are prepared to deal with the fact that GWTDT the film won't be the same as the book your likely to like me enjoy this emmensly.
I was greatly impressed with Niels Arden Oplev take on Larssons's novel, Michael Nyqvist was great fit for Blomvist and I can understand the fuss that Noomi Rapace caused with her reading of Lisbeth Salander. It's the kind of star making performance that gets you noticed and any actress that is going to try and take this on in Finchers remake is certainly got there work cut out. Yes the film does get rid of certain elements of the book some might be unhappy about but this is a suspenceful wonderfully executed thriller.
