Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) by Matt W — 31 Mar 2014
Definitely a stronger film than the American remake, and also truer to the book, as I am told.
Although the remake may look gorgeous, it misses the grit of this Swedish original. The performances feel so real, with Noomi Rapace proving why she got work in the US, with everyone's favourite Prometheus.
Which I actually liked. Quite a lot.
Anyway.
The film may be long, but it is utterly gripping, and comes off as strangely epic, even though the visual style is quite small. It reminded me of the recent Prisoners, which I also happened to love. It may not be as good as Prisoners, but it is still a suspenseful and disturbing thriller.
I actually felt like I was reading the book as I was watching it, as the film was so rich in information whether it be through the visuals, or the brilliant script.
It did drag in places, and although it is not mind blowing, which could be due to having seen the remake first, I still thoroughly enjoyed this film.
