Review of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009) by Xgary X — 24 Feb 2012
Dark, intense, gripping, sexual-morally challenging, provocative, risky, well written acted and directed.
This could be the advent of the post-modern female super hero. But, more in the vein of Christian Bale's Dark Knight and with out the gimmicky techno gadgetry. She's hard and the justice she delivers is as hard on others as life's been hard on her.
Seeing "tattoo" should be a conscious choice. The rape scene in the first movie is unmistakably fully present and it's graphic. Like the torture scene in Deer Hunter. But so is the reality and the characters' complexities.
Tattoo reveals itself in layers. It's a curiosity, it's tantalizing and it's distracting. I won't say it should be seen, I will say it shouldn't be missed.
