Review of The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) by Christopher L — 14 Nov 2016
A refreshing twist on classic zombie fare. Solid acting for a zombie film with a little heart, beyond those that get eaten. The main story points have all the usual zombie situations, a splash of action and the moral dilemmas we would face when society collapses.
The production quality is high. The action is compelling and well used. The star of the show is Sennia Nanua as Melaine. The film interestingly shifts the point of view in this film and asks "What moral dilemma might the new zombie's face?". We always reflect on how the social order might collapse in a Zombie apocalypse. Glenn Close covers off that moral position well. The interesting question this film adds is what does the new "master race" chose to do?
The Girl with All the Gifts explores these problems and shows us the problem from the other side of the veil. A solid addition for any zombie film fan, but will also appeal to a wider audience. The scenes with the roaming street children zombies was stand out.
I have to confess I am not a huge fan of the ending. I felt it was out of place and oddly handled. I appreciate the point but maybe quibble with the delivery.
