Review of The Girl with All the Gifts (2016) by Paul G — 21 Jun 2017
The zombie genre has been so thoroughly co-opted and merchansided that even die hard zombie fans (see what I did there? ;p ) like myself don't give a shit about it any more.
However, old schoolers can take heart over The Girl with All the Gift. Refreshingly, this story returns the zombie genre to its roots. While far from being a masterpiece, it's better than the yankee film critics are telling you (they probably think The Walking Dead is "gripping" and "original", stupid cunts). The Girl is a well-wraught and thoughtul if not outstanding drama exploring -- as do all the best films in the genre -- the mysteries of what it means to be human. A solid 3 out of 5.
