Review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2006) by Tim C — 23 Apr 2011
Maybe I just wanted to like it more than what it was. The main girl, Makoto, is just all over the place and displays what I guess most Japanese guys like to call "cute behaviour" by using her leaping powers to create things like a "perfect day" or avoiding a difficult confession. However, the movie just seems to lack any power because the consequences of her actions feel so minor most of the time and the other time, Makoto acts like the dumbest person on the planet by thinking of the weirdest solutions to the problems she caused.
It's not until she runs out of her power and needs it to prevent something truly bad from happening that there are real consequences to her actions, but even then, someone is there to pick up the pieces for her... And exactly HOW she ended up in that position was just plain dumb as she once again used her power to avoid confronting a personal issue.
Animation wise, things are pretty solid, and the voice acting is also without any real hitches. I was just expecting a lot more from this movie.
