Review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (1997) by Alex V — 11 Oct 2009
8.0/10 --.
This little time travel, rom-com anime, is actually a lot better then you would think. It turns out that giving the power to go back in time to a clumsy, slightly idiotic, school girl was very much a stroke of genius. Without any actual good use for her powers, she squanders it on absolutely pointless and trivial things. The result is hilarious, as she goes pack in time to eat a cup of pudding before her sister, sing kareoke for ten hours, and try to push her high school social life in certain directions. Better yet, every time she time jumps, she goes flying into walls and objects, and somehow, it never gets old.
All the characters are endearing and likable, and the animation is simple and clean, in case you were wondering.
It isn't until the last half an hour that the movie becomes a real drag,as it gets all serious and refuses to end. It's also probably worth mentioning that watching and anime character sob uncontrollably for more then 4 seconds at a time, is still as awkward and uncomfortable as ever. Otherwise, "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time," is... well, it's a good time...
