Review of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (1997) by Mloy X — 17 Oct 2013
Kazuko Yoshiyama: I first fell in love in high school. We became really close as soon as we met. It was like we'd known each other since childhood. But it was over before we became adults.
Makoto Konno: Why?
Kazuko Yoshiyama: The timing was probably bad.
Makoto Konno: What is he doing now?
Kazuko Yoshiyama: I wonder. He said he would definitely return one day. Though I didn't plan on waiting for him. And so much time has passed. It didn't last long. A blink of an eye. But, Makoto... you're not like me, right? If someone were late to meet you... wouldn't you run out to meet him?
Now this is more my kind of anime. Absolutely awesome and perfect: the characters were charming and very likeable, they each had a unique personality and identifiable quirks that makes them all so appealing and relatable. The story was interesting, simple and easy to understand; plus it had a good balance of humor and gravity that made the movie very engaging. Plus, this was also a project from the always brilliant MadHouse studios-- my absolute favorite animation studio (tied with studio Ghibli) who has the Midas touch when it comes to producing thought provoking, uniquely interesting, adorably heart-warming anime. This anime is an instant favorite-- absolutely, completely LOVED it!!!
