Review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) by Paula Ella K — 17 Feb 2011
It is very hard to make a successful movies three times in a row following the most popular "Millennium series" edition of the late Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson. This 2009 Swedish thriller film is directed by Daniel Alfredson and compared with the bestselling novel of the same name is well behind! Some slow introduction, then picking up the tempo, dropping it again, only at the end we had the right thriller pace! In this third (and last) film of the series, Lisbeth Salander (Noomi Rapace) is airlifted to a hospital in Gothenburg where surgeons remove bullets from her shoulder, hip, and head, where her father, Alexander Zalachenko, shot her. The young hospital doctor, Dr. Jonasson (Aksel Morisse) is preventing anyone except her lawyer from visiting, and there is a reason for that. Niedermann (Micke Spreitz) is a fugitive, wanted for killing a police officer, and he wants to kill his half sister Lisbeth! But the plot gets even more complicated when a man named Evert Gullberg (Hans Alfredson) meets with his former colleague of 35 years, Fredrik Clinton (Lennart Hjulström) and they decide that they must silence Zalachenko and Lisbeth...
Acting in this movie goes from bad to brilliant... the last one goes for the veteran actor Per Oscarsson, who died in a house fire on January 3, 2011. First one could be applied for the main character in parts of the movie where much of it just trundles along, but at the end Noomi Rapace manages to re-establish herself as the implacable heroine. It's been interesting journey from Dragon Tattoo to Hornet's Nest... mostly pleasant...
If you've seen the first two parts, do not miss the third one... it is kind of a closure which you'll need. For the others, you could find something better to spend the money on!
