Review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) by Mike C — 02 Mar 2011
Understandably, they had to finish the series. Movie one was fantastic, the second okay, and you can't have one or two-thirds of a trilogy without the finale. But this movie doesn't not hold up to its two predecessors, especially not the first one.
The story is more or less wrapped up in Hornet's Nest. To me, everything is just a little too convenient. Everyone figures out everything in mere seconds, yet when getting threatening emails for a couple of weeks, is surprised that his safety is in danger? What??
And the costume at the end is cool, but where exactly did it come from? Salander had to wear very basic, safe clothes while locked up, but somehow managed to put on all the spikes and give herself a wicked mohawk for the trial? Pure pretentious drama right there.
Not a bad series. Would have been great had the second and third movies been as good as the first. And yeah, probably the books are better anyway.
