Review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) by Colin H — 30 Jun 2011
Yes, I manage to see the original trilogy to the end before the American remake emerges!
Hornet's Nest follows straight off the back of the second film (Girl who Played with Fire) and sees the socially recluse Lisbeth recovering from the last chapter, only to find her life in danger yet again from a shadowy syndicate. It is up to her only friend, the journalist Mikeal Blomkvist, to gather the evidence together and clear her name.
Most of the film is set within the courtroom as Lisbeth is under trial, but this is a great vehicle to tie up the narrative over the last two films. As a stand alone movie, I'd say Hornet's Nest is one of the weaker chapters in the trilogy, but together this movie elevates the other two, making the whole story feel worthwhile and involved!
One of the most concise and complete trilogies I've seen in a while.
