Review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) by Brian S — 06 Aug 2011
A step up from its predecessor, but given how tragically sloppy that one was, this one naturally suffers as well. the pacing and general story arc were much better--there were actually elements of suspense and while it wasn't perfect, it actually felt like somewhat of a thriller.
the characters, though, are just terrible. I don't care about them. I'm never given a reason to root for anything anyone does. over the course of the trilogy, Blomqvist became one of the flattest, dullest characters of them all, and he's supposed to be the hero.
story elements just kind of come and ago, and nothing's really ever built upon. it's just a random chain of events with a random group of people, and somehow I'm supposed to get it. there's no puzzle.
there's no excitement. the ending to this movie is one of the most disappointing, anticlimactic endings ever. this film series started on a high note, but man, did it ever crash and burn.
