Review of The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) by Zurino O — 13 Nov 2012
I find it, if not impossible, then, very difficult for sequels to be anywhere near as good as the original. Simply because the story MUST be incredibly engaging to make up for the fact that it is no longer new. This one is nearly a miss. But it keeps your attention because it is still a fascinating story that has just enough interesting elements to keep you engaged. Case in point: once again, Noomi shines.
I think Dragon Tattoo worked so well because the movie wasn't about Lizbet (Noomi). She was just a riveting mysterious part of a sensational story. I wonder if the last 2 movies would have benefitted more from keeping that same flavor rather than centering both sequel stories on and about Lizbet. Perhaps 'Fire' ruined its chances. Because 'Hornets Nest' tried, but more mystery would have kept me more intrigued, and by extension, more interested.
