Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Alex H — 15 Oct 2016
The film was great, and given the current presidential campaign very timely. The film is about illusions, illusions that each of the characters have about each other and that the audience has about the characters.
For Rachel, the viewpoint character, it is also about getting free of illusions and coming back to herself, a journey shared by the audience as our ideas about Rachel change. Some viewers may be put off by the way the story is told.
There are lots of flashbacks and flash forwards, and shifting between different points of view. Each of the bits is tightly focused on building (or changing) our mental picture of the characters, so bear with it.
The connection with the current presidential campaign becomes clear as we come to understand Rachel's ex If you are addicted to action pics or are an adrenalin junkie, this movie is not for you. If you like thinking about the bits of movies and watching characters becoming free of the damage done to them by sociopathic relationships you'll like this movie.
