Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Steven B — 19 Oct 2016
Some of the Old Geezers Who Go To The Matinee Alone saw this last week. I have waited to review as I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. After a week thinking about it, I disliked more than I liked. Despite a strong performance by Emily Blunt this just doesn't hold up.
I had found the book on which this is based confusing and disjointed; same for the movie.I think the director, Tate Taylor, was trying for a Hitchcock type movie or trying to recreate the 1944 classic, Gaslight, with Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman.
I think he failed on both counts. Blunt was not helped by a lackluster effort of the supporting cast and the lack of effort on scenes and such left me more cold than impressed. If you liked the book you will like this one, but otherwise you won't miss much by passing on it.
