Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Mic P — 05 Nov 2016
An all-around fantastically made film that kept me thoroughly invested and left me genuinely shocked at the lukewarm reception. My favorite thing was most certainly the characters, presented as generally negative female archetypes (the crazy ex-girlfriend, the obsessive Stepford-wife new mother, the amoral sl*t mistress) and flipped them on their heads, turning each woman into a three-dimensional, interesting, and sympathetic character.
As many others have said, Emily Blunt's performance is truly something spectacular, and I hope she gets attatched to a more successful film soon. My only negative gripes would be that I actually had trouble telling two of the main female characters apart (both beautiful pale blonde women, eye roll) and during the end the climax and resolution lost a lot of momentum.
Would recommend!
