Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Themetacritiqer — 16 Nov 2016
I'm so glad I was able to experience this story. I read the book, then watched the movie. While I can't know what would have happened if I reversed that process, I felt like I would have liked the movie better(maybe even a good deal better.
Maybe. The point is I don't want to badmouth it)if I saw it first. There really is not much of a difference at all between the two. For the most part, the dialogue is identical. Although I don't like how they took out the role of one detective.
And then leaving out the horror scene with Scott was a let down. Maybe they thought it was out of character or it would lessen the impact of the fight with Tom(I warned you, spoilers.)(that's not a one-eyed smiley face)After knowing the entire story, listening to Rachael's opening monologue or the slow(well it seemed fast compared to the-ok I'm sick of writing "book") revealing and hints of who the murderer is doesn't get me thinking like the novel did.
While reading it I was captivated at times. I even wrote down all my theories and hypotheses on paper. For the record I predicted it was Tom about 75% percent through. The really obvious clue that got me was when I think it was Anna who described how good he was at lying.
Come on, that's a big giveaway. So while the twist wasn't up there with Bioshock Infinite, at least it got me to think hard about it. But again, I wasn't doing that while watching the movie. Although it still was cool to watch it all on screen.
I like how it goes all the way with the brutality with no shame.(okay, that night I watched "that" Walking Dead episode, which was amazing by the way). Oh, and it should be noted that the main reason I was interested in this memorable story is because Emily Blunt(Sicari-fricken-o) is in it.
It's sad to let it all go but while I don't know what stories the future will hold,(or is holding if you believe in string theory(laugh emoji/GTA reference))the great thing is I know there will be.
