Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Friskytiger81 — 29 Oct 2016
Behold a miserable adaptation of a novel. This should be a lesson in selecting the right filmmaker (director of THE HELP?) to tell your story. Every character was one-dimensional with a story that is so predictable that it's never elevated above a Lifetime original movie.
Blunt's amazing performance as a drunk is wasted on every other character that never defies any of their stereotypes. Men are violent sexual predators, a prisoner to their own transgressions, and women are their lovelorn objects who enjoy being the object of their desire more than they hate the loneliness of the live it brings.
This falls into the genre of suburban thriller and I would agree with the critic that stated if you wanted to see GONE GIRL by the director of THE HELP -- watch this. Or don't and say that you did - you already know the ending.
