Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Tvjerry — 06 Oct 2016
Emily Blunt plays an extremely troubled woman (and severe alcoholic) who fantasizes about a couple that she sees while riding the train to work. After a death, the plot is supposed to become more intriguing, but only slogs along with lots of ambiguous flashbacks, repetitive encounters and a confusing timeline.
The tedious pacing and somber intensity of the performances make for a dreary drama. While the lax build up promises a shocking revelation, it lands with a predictable yawn. Even though Blunt does a decent job in the role, her character isn't sympathetic or even compelling.
This "Train" crashes repeatedly.
