Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Chris F — 29 Oct 2016
The Girl on the Train is a surprisingly dull and boring mystery. Let's start with the positives. The performances are really good. Emily Blunt shines in the lead role. Haley Bennett is also very good in her role.
But their characters are just unlikeable. Every character in this movie is just poorly written. The central mystery of the film is very predictable. I figured out the ending in about an hour. The film just throws random red herrings just for the sake of it.
They aren't there to further the plot. They're just there to mess with you. Tate Taylor's direction is pretty bad. The close ups feel cheesy. The script is also bad. The dialogue is cheesy and laughable.
Overall, this film is basically a Lifetime movie with a better cast and bigger budget. While it does offer some cheap thrills, there aren't enough to make this film worthwhile.
