Review of The Girl on the Train (2016) by Jesse M — 23 Jan 2017

The Girl On The Train received a drubbing from critics, and to a point you can see why. It's a slow-paced film that isn't concerned with spoon feeding the audience or telling the story in a linear fashion. This whodunit spends its entire first act jumping back and forth, and if you're not paying attention, you're going to get lost.

SPOILER TERRITORY: As the murder mystery unfolds, we are treated to multiple glimpses at what children and pregnancy can do to a woman in the 21st century. Some might say it's an anti-feminist or reductive message, but I didn't take it as such. Being pregnant and having a child is supposed to be a massive, life-changing experience, and it was certainly a refreshing backdrop for a thriller. What? You wanted it to be about money again? It's not a perfect murder mystery (For that, see Gone Girl), but it's a good watch!
