Review of The Girl in the Spider's Web (2018) by Jon M — 11 Nov 2018
The filmmakers took a compelling character from the vastly superior "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and made her an implausible female James Bond with tattoos and a grumpy disposition. In this entry, the disturbed and disturbing Lisbeth Salander is now a superhero with the ability to do hand to hand battle against half a dozen men twice her size, call on a network of computer technology that gives her the ability to access, turn on or shut down any security barrier in her path, and partner with a government agent who was initially sent to capture her, all while showing her maternal side to a freakishly brilliant young super genius.
An engaging performance by Claire Foy (although not a patch on Rooney Mara in the first entry) and some exciting action sequences don't make up for the ludicrousness of the entire enterprise.
