Review of The Girl from Paris (2001) by Jeannine E — 04 May 2009
?The Girl from Paris? is a long boring movie that will keep you looking at your watch to see when it will end, and it is painfully hard to sit though. The film has some very graphic scenes that portray the birth and slaughter of animals.
There was really no need to show these scenes of violence and birth of two dead farm animals. Also, some of the characters are not explained or just flat out creepy. There is this one character, a hang glider, who comes in and out of the background in scenes.
The hang glider is seen through out the film, but character of the hang glider is never developed, and it is left up to the viewer to decipher exactly who the hang glider is or what he represents. Another character in the film, the original owner of the farm, is also kind of ambiguous and kind of creepy.
The original owner of the farm is torn between the old and new ways of farming brought by a young woman from the city. Throughout the movie the owner cannot decide if he despises the young woman or if he is sexually drawn to her because she reminds him of his late wife.
This attraction is just down right disturbing because the age difference between the two is at least 30 plus years. After wasting around two hours of your life, the movie ends abruptly. There is no sense of conclusion, the young woman just gives up on the farm and moves back to Paris.
The film does not investigate why the young woman gave up her dream, but rather ends when her dream ends. :rotten:
