Review of The Gift (2015) by Tim K — 16 Nov 2015
You're done with the past but the past isn't done with you.
A young married couple moves out to Los Angeles from Chicago to put their lives behind them. They actually aren't far from where the groom grew up. One day while shopping the groom bumps into an old friend from school. They catch up on old times and even hang out. Eventually, it gets awkward and is time to move on...till it appears the old friend isn't ready to move on...
"It was a big storm in a small town.".
Joel Edgerton delivers The Gift in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is very unique and interesting. The pace of the film is perfect and contains a nice blend of drama and horror. The characters and script are well written. The cast delivers very good performances and include Jason Bateman, Joel Edgerton, Rebecca Hall, Allison Tollman, and Tim Griffin.
"It's really important to not look back.".
I loved the previews for this when it was coming out into theatres. We grabbed this from Red Box and I couldn't wait to watch this. This was pretty good and clever. It wasn't epic, but it did remind me of Gone Girl a little for some reason (just not as good). Overall, I consider this a must see that is borderline worth adding to your DVD collection.
"I gave you a chance.".
Grade: B+.
