Review of The Gift (2000) by Dae / — 19 Nov 2007
This is kind of a light thriller to watch on one of those days when you just don't feel like putting your brain to work.
I don't mean to say that it's a dumb movie. Far from that. What I mean is that the story here is what it is. No more, no less. You just follow what they show you and wait for closure. No ups and downs. No twists. No mesmerizing events. Just a plain, yet interesting story.
In my opinion, Blanchett's definitely the heart and soul of this movie. No surprise here. And, yes, there are a lot of famous people within the cast, but forget all about 'em. It's very hard for one to look like a performance head honcho whenever Blanchett is around doing what she does best (aka acting in the most convincing way possible). The only exception was Rabisi. His character stare alone felt like a big neon sign saying something like: "Warning: watch out for psychotic lunatic". Impressive performance! Enough to make this movie worthwhile.
