Review of The Gift (2000) by Robert T — 15 Nov 2008
I have never heard of this movie before until I recently viewed it on cable television, and trust me, I know my movies. So I viewed this film without any knowledge of the story, plot, and the characters.
I have to admit, the film was good. The film started out slow -- real slow -- but it picked up toward the middle when the plot introduced the the murder of a wealthy young lady. There were some confusing moments, but those did not derail the film at all.
I just thought those confusing moments were random, and well, fillers to extend the film longer. The film's cast was just great. Each delivered their characters quite well. I was surprised that Katie Holmes was in this film.
Though she didn't go a bad job, I just felt another actress could have done it better. But overall, the film was quite entertaining. It was creepy and suspenseful. Sadly, I felt a lack of consistent substance throughout the film, and the ending's twist was just cliche.
I was hoping the ending could have been build up throughout the film than introducing it during the last ten-minutes of it. This film was interesting, but sadly it was released under the radar.
