Review of The Gift (2000) by Rafael F — 17 Sep 2009
Good film with a good story but not anything extroardinary. Cate Blanchett is convincing as a town fortune teller however, wish I could say more for the rest of the supporting cast. Keanu Reeves has never been worse and Katie Holmes is just as bad.
Greg Kinnear, Ribishi and Swank are serviceable enough but are never quite convincing but nowhere near as bad as Reeves and Holmes. The direction is surprisingly good and not goofy like much of Raimis work.
The film feels like an experiment for Raimi with it's more serious tone dealing with suprernatural crime thriller elements. Raimi delivers for the most part. honestly if it wasn't for Blanchetts pitch perfect performance I probably would have rated this a bit lower but Overall, I enjoyed The Gift for what it was.
