(2000) The Gift.
MYSTERY/ THRILLER.
Based on a screenplay co written by Billy Bob Thorton, (whose mother was also supposed to be one those superstitious believers) has one of those hillbilly/ southern redneck set ups, where they're fortune tellers working on their own free will for a little extra money if 'social secuity' doesn't provide enough except on this film centers on a 'what if' one of those so-called psychics actually have one those psychic phenomenum abilities and in this case happens to be an Austrialian actress Cate Blanchette speaking southern accent, as well as "Whoa" Keanu Reeves as the abusive boyfriend to his girlfriend Valerie played by natural Southern accent Hillary Swank! Also stars is Greg Kinnear and Katie Holmes playing as his supposedly fiance, unusually filmed by director Sam Raimi best known for his "Evil Dead" series! The mystery doesn't come in to play until the almost an hour long introduction to hillbilly characters and their immoral situations in their county! Not bad, except that we've all seen this type of film before done before, better on other films that're similar in terms of style, such as "The Dead Zone", "Stir of Echoes" with Kevin Bacon and the popular "The 6th Sense" to name a few!
2.5 out of 4.
