Review of The Gift (2000) by Ken S — 21 Jan 2015
This supernatural suspense film from the great Sam Raimi is a decent movie in the genre. Cate Blanchett is a great actress, and luckily she leads this pretty decent cast, even Reeves is surprisingly good as the redneck wife beater.
I wouldn't say the film is especially brilliant or shocking, but it is a solid little thriller and if you like a decent suspense film then this is probably up your alley. I like Raimi, and I think he is a competent filmmaker who doesn't get enough respect from Hollywood, even after his huge blockbuster success with "Spider-Man", he somehow still doesn't get the same kind of treatment as other major hit-makers in Hollywood.
I watched this for my love of Raimi, but if you like a thriller or a supernatural suspense tale, or even just some murder mysteries, you might like this one.
