Review of The Getaway (1972) by Nioto B — 03 Mar 2009
An above and beyond the call of duty heist flick, The Getaway has a excitingly divergent script by Walter Hill and manages to milk each scene for its maximum tension while taking it real slow. Peckinpah, here at his most New Wavy (in a way that recalls John Boorman's Point Blank), could've quickened the pace a bit, but I'm kind of glad he didn't.
Both methodical and quirky, with Steve McQueen tearing it up as the Peckinpah Macho Man, The Getaway keeps it gritty but keeps its cool.
